CARD was registered as a Society under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975 on December 14, 1982. The Registration Number is 53/82.

CARD was also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act(FCRA) 1976 on July 14, 1983. The Registration Number is 076050002.

CARD was registered with the Commissioner of Income Tax under the Income Tax Act 1961 on March 3, 1996. Exemption renewal granted under section 80G for the period from 01.04.2006 to 31.03.2009. Renewal application for exemption for further period of three years was made in November 2008.
